Third Robert Townsend movie that attacks the super-heroic genre at an angle offset ...
THE METEOR MAN - Robert Townsend (1993)
Jefferson Reed (Robert Townsend) is a school teacher in Washington, a sort of "gentleman-all-the-world", who undergoes as the rest of the gang violence.
One evening, after escaping the most dangerous, the Golden Lords, Jefferson was hit by a meteor green ... Transferred to the hospital, his wounds heal miraculously. And he discovers amazing powers: he sees through walls (and clothes), talk to dogs, reading a book by touching it, is bulletproof and other incongruities. With
(Eddie Griffin) and his parents, he develops his powers, assembles a suit and hunting traffickers rabibauche Bloods and Crips, harassing thieves ...
This is a delightful film "bis". There is really no argument: the special effects are ostentatiously prehistoric improbable story as simple, low budget is offset by its inventiveness and quality of staging some, and finally the supporting roles are all perfect in their roles. Unlike other films, especially those of white film, each character is caricatured with a benevolence that it never falls into the extreme.
is amazing that the cast itself retains all the attention, not only for their names more or less known, but because the secondary characters are the heart of this comedy. The old guard is still in the spotlight: James Earl Jones, who sported surreal and fetish his music of Billie Holliday, Bill Cosby-hero-hidden, Marla Gibbs (which begins in Sweet Jesus Preacherman and Black Belt Jones ), Marilyn Coleman ( Willie Dynamite ), Stu Gilliam (which is the last film and who starred in The Mack and Dr. Black, Mr. Hyde ).
But Townsend (and Ruth E. Carter, the casting director) gives a chance for the younger generation: Eddie Griffin (who will play another hero: Undercover Brother), Don Cheadle, Tommy "Tiny" Lister, Roy Fegan, Bobby McGee, Tommy Redmond Hicks ( little known except for his role in She's Gotta Have It ), Lela Rochon, Deborah Lacey, Faizon Love, Jenifer Lewis, John Witherspoon and Chris Tucker (who does is not credited and we hear just the voice). There are also a lot of rap today classified as "old school": Big Daddy Kane, Anthony "Treach" Criss, B-Real and Cypress Hill, Naughty By Nature ...
