After Mo'Money , Damon Wayans book a scenario more realistic and less delusional about a duo of superheroes Afro-American (like the Meteor Man Robert Townsend last year).
BLANKMAN - Mike Binder (1994)
Darryl Walker (Damon Wayans) is a geek glasses on his nose prominent, inventor in his spare time and of course a virgin. His older brother Kevin (David Alan Grier) works as a cameraman for TV3 and newspaper Kimberly Jonz (Robin Givens). Both live with their grandmother, murdered while she was campaigning for a candidate who promised to clean the city from underworld led by Michael Minelli (Jon Polito).
Then Darryl becomes "Blankman", a super hero costume inviolable and gadgets. It saves anonymous stalking Minelli and his men, and especially proves with the coolest costume and able to crack the pretty Kimberly.
Written, produced and performed by Damon Wayans, the film failed to find its audience and transforms into real money pit. It must be said that just a few months after The Meteor Man , and the comedy superhero Afro-Americans are not an a priori kind lucrative. Yet the result is pretty funny, genuine declaration of love as a parody Batman TV series version of the late 60s: murder of a relative who wants to conquer evil City, onomatopoeia in superimposed heroic duo, super-secret hideout, super-bike, pretty girl to save ... Until generic cartoon very nice that I put below.
end players, David Alan Grier here, in a rather sober-register is always very good and Robin Givens still as compelling and always supporting roles used by the Wayans: Chris Spencer, Yvette Wilson, Tony Cox ... and actors of the older generation: Gerry Black ( Across the 110th Street), June Christopher ( Death Journey ) ... I should also mention that embodies Jon Polito a wicked mimic croquignolesque full of costumes and kitschy. Finally, Wayans is already preparing his succession and is playing his children: Damon Jr., Cara Mia and Michael.
